Tuesday night, September 2, 2025, at Germania Insurance Amphitheater wasn’t just another concert—it was a pilgrimage.

“Zakk Wylde, Charlie Benante, Phil Anselmo, and Rex Brown delivered a great tribute to the fans with a tight, powerful set that included their big hits and favorites from the classic albums. The intensity of the crowd’s energy was as notoriously explosive as the shows in the ’90s. Headbanger 4-ever!”
— Finnia Griffiths, Event Attendee
“The show was amazing. Zakk Wylde was the only one who could represent Dimebag as he did. If this is the last time we see Pantera, this will be the best ending to a truly amazing story. Long live Pantera!”
— Joe Gonzales, Event Attendee
When Pantera rolled into their home state as part of The Heaviest Tour of Summer, Austin’s metal faithful showed up in force, ready to pay tribute to the Abbott brothers and witness something special.

The evening kicked off with Flesh Hoarder delivering exactly what their name promises—brutal, uncompromising metal that had the early arrivals nodding their approval.

But it was Australia’s King Parrot who really lit the fuse. Frontman Matt Young is pure chaos in human form, bouncing off every surface while spitting lyrics with genuine venom. Their grindcore assault had the pit moving before most people had finished their first beer.

Amon Amarth turned the amphitheater into Valhalla. Johan Hegg’s voice could wake the dead, and probably did, as thousands of metalheads became Vikings for an hour. The highlight? Their now-famous “rowing pit” during “Put Your Back Into the Oar,” where the entire crowd dropped to the ground and paddled in unison. It sounds ridiculous until you see it—then it’s just pure magic.
But everyone was really here for one thing: to see if Pantera could recapture their lightning in a bottle.
They delivered an explosive performance to over 20,000 fans, with the crowd reciprocating every ounce of energy. The night was charged with the magic of honoring Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, and the pioneers who started it all—paying powerful tribute to their enduring legacy.

Phil Anselmo walked out looking like he’d been waiting his whole life for this moment. When that first chord of “Suicide Note Pt. II” hit, twenty-thousand people lost their minds simultaneously. Zakk Wylde’s guitar work was respectful but fierce—he wasn’t trying to be Dimebag, just honoring him. Rex Brown and Charlie Benante locked into grooves so heavy they felt geological.
The crowd knew every word to every song. During “Cowboys From Hell,” it was impossible to tell where Anselmo’s voice ended and the audience began. “Walk” turned into a religious experience. By the time they closed with “Fucking Hostile,” people were literally crying—from joy, from exhaustion, from the sheer power of it all.
This wasn’t just nostalgia mining. Sure, Dimebag and Vinnie Paul’s absence was felt, but what Pantera delivered Tuesday night was vital and alive. They proved that some music is bigger than the sum of its parts, that groove metal still has something important to say.
As the house lights came up and twenty-thousand sweaty metalheads stumbled toward the exits, one thing was clear: Pantera is back, and they’re not here to play nice. They’re here to remind everyone what heavy music is supposed to feel like.
In a city built on live music, they delivered a reminder that heavy metal isn’t just music—it’s a way of life. Austin didn’t just hear it Tuesday night—they lived it.
